The successful applicant will join a 12-person desk that helps produce a section that emphasizes staff-written coverage of regional business. Business staffers and the entire section have been honored by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, the National Press Foundation, The Associated Press and the Texas Headliners, among others.

The job entails laying out the section on some days and copy editing on others. Applicants should have strong skills in both areas. At least three years of professional newspaper experience is preferred. Experience editing business copy is a plus, as is experience on the CCI pagination system. But the most important attributes are copy-editing excellence and a willingness to learn about business journalism.

Editors on the Business Copy Desk are expected to write enticing, insightful headlines; combine a high level of copy-editing skill with an understanding of business coverage; and demonstrate a talent for inviting and informative page design.

The Business Copy Desk works a four-day week, with Saturdays off. The desk works in a team environment with assignment editors and reporters, as well as with the newspaper’s photo and graphics desks.

Applicants should contact Business News copy chief Chris Wienandt at cwienandt@dallasnews.com or Ed Dufner,
assistant managing editor/Business, at edufner@dallasnews.com.
