Internews Network is seeking a Resident Advisor to oversee and conduct radio and television journalism training programs, provide expert advice and guidance in radio news and television production, and provide managerial and development support to the Pakistani project and staff.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned:
* Organize and conduct hands-on trainings in both basic and investigative radio journalism.
* Organize and conduct hands-on training of television journalists for a film-based TV program focused on human rights and the rule of law.
* Oversee training program at Peshawar University, including management of two Internews staff at the Peshawar office and maintenance of university relationships.
* Oversee the production of radio programs Qabailuna (for listener groups in tribal areas bordering Afghanistan) Da Nan Khabara (produced by students), and Hawa Aur Doonya (women’s program), both aired on the Internews-built campus radio.
* Create and manage listener groups in tribal areas and oversee distribution of radio programs to the groups.
* Direct geographic expansion of radio and television partnerships in coordination with the Pakistan Country Director.
* Oversee plans for short-term visiting journalism consultants and supervise those visits.
* Continue to expand Internews Pakistan’s library of training material, to include generating original material.
* Assist the women’s production unit and program known as Meri Awaz Suno.as follows: plan/coordinate the installation of studio equipment; oversee program coverage, editing and distribution, providing regular feedback to journalists; recommend performance improvements for Meri Awaz Suno, Peshawar University, and partner radio stations; and assist with the planning for long-term financial independence/self sustainability of Meri Awaz Suno
* Strategize and coordinate on-going efforts to raise public awareness of the project as well as project partners.
* Manage training sections of the budget and report to the Country Director and Senior Accountant.
* Assist the CD with direct representation of Internews’ work to funders, partners and aid organizations working in or associated with the media sector in Pakistan.
QUALIFICATIONS
* At least six years of experience in news journalism and news production
* Proven training or mentoring abilities
* Extensive radio news and television broadcasting experience
* Knowledge of radio and television equipment and broadcast technology
* Experience working within the format of a grant funded program
* Relevant university degree
* Experience working in region desirable
