Managing Editor
Atlanta’s NBC affiliate is looking for a newsroom manager who
oversees the news content of 11Alive News, including on-air, on-line
and other developing media distribution systems. Responsibilities
include managing the producing staff, including evaluating their
talents and overseeing their work on newscasts; working with the
reporting staff in helping assign stories, being an on-going resource
for their news gathering, and overseeing the execution of their
on-air story; overseeing newscast and special report content during
dayside hours; working with the Senior Nightside Producer to develop
daily story ideas and focus for our 11pm newscast; and working with
the entire news management team to help ensure that we are producing
the best newscasts and stories possible. Must have excellent writing
and producing skills to serve as a copy editor for our 6pm and 7pm
shows, as well as a backup show producer for those newscasts in the
event of a last minute producer absence. This person will work with
other news managers in support of our news philosophy (”The News You
Expect, The Balance You Deserve”) on all of our news broadcast and
on-line efforts, including overseeing the production of unique
content for our website by all staffers. We’re looking for a leader
who can spark memorable story-telling stories every day, no matter
what the distribution outlet is.
Above all, this person must be a leader, able to communicate and
carry out the station’s news philosophy. Top candidates must have
excellent news judgment, as well as strong producing and writing
skills. Requires ability to work under pressure and make quick
decisions. Strong problem solving and analytical skills required.
Must be able to communicate ideas and solutions quickly and clearly,
not only with news department but with other departments on a daily
basis. Position also requires good interpersonal skills for
motivating staff, maximizing performance and directing news
coverage. Prior newscast producing experience is required. Previous
news management experience in a top 20 market is preferred.
Experience with I-News computer system and AVID non-linear editing
system are assets.
