News Producer

Atlanta’s Gannett owned NBC affiliate, WXIA-TV, and My Network TV, WATL-TV is looking for an aggressive, motivated, and experienced News Producer who works well under pressure, loves live TV and the big story. We are a station already taking advantage of new multi-media platforms, and this person must have a good understanding of the web, and what role multi-media platforms can play in the day to day coverage of local TV News. This is a main show position that requires the ability to manage up and down, work independently while directing others.
This position prefers a minimum of three to five years top 30 market experience in newscast producing in a
medium size market; no beginners please. Top candidates should have excellent news judgment, strong writing skills,
and the ability to take charge of all aspects of the show. This person must be an independent
thinker, but team oriented. Communication is key, especially in working with fellow show producers, executive producers and an experienced anchor team. Looking for a creative producer, someone who knows how to capitalize on opportunities, not a show stacker. This position requires someone who can work well under pressure and make good decisions quickly. The producer should have internet experience, in terms of using the web to research stories, being able to drive content to the station’s website, and writing new material for the Station’s website. Experience in working with a non-linear editing system is a strong asset, especially in terms on knowing how to edit in a non-linear system. Applicant must be willing to work different schedules including overnight, weekends, and holidays, as well as other duties as assigned, including Associate Producer.

Assignment Desk Editor

Atlanta’s Gannett owned NBC affiliate, WXIA-TV, and My Network TV, WATL-TV is looking for an experienced Assignment Desk Editor. The main responsibility of this position is to assign crews to cover news stories. This requires following up leads by working phones to determine the news worthiness of a story. This position involves a great deal of phone work and listening to police scanners. It requires extensive computer work, by creating and updating story files in the newsroom computer system and researching stories through the Internet. The assignment editor must be able to think quickly in matching up reporters and photographers and switching them instantly in the event of breaking news to maximize the output of the news operation. This person must be able to communicate and work well with other staffers, especially fellow assignment editors, reporters, photographers, show producers and web producers. Finally, this person must realize the importance of both our broadcast and web efforts as distribution sources for 11Alive’s news and information product.

A minimum of three years prior assignment desk experience preferred. Previous street reporting or photography experience and knowledge of Atlanta market is preferred but not required. Prior experience with a newsroom computer system, preferably Avstar, as well as experience in using the Internet to research stories is preferred. Ability to remain cool under pressure while juggling multiple projects is essential. College degree preferred. Applicant must be willing to work different schedules including overnight, weekends, and holidays.
