JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: MPR/APM Web Intern

Position Summary:

The MPR/APM Web intern will assist with the production of Minnesota Public Radio and American Public Media Web sites. Duties include gathering information and readying it for the Web, working with digital audio and graphics, and helping with related administrative tasks. The internship will provide basic training in Web production and exposure to professional practices for sites such as A Prairie Home Companion, The Current, MPR News, and MPR Music. MPR/APM sites collectively reach more than 1 million visitors a month.

The MPR/APM Web internship will begin in Fall 2007. The duration of the internship is 4 - 6 months at 15-20 hours per week with a flexible schedule. This is a paid internship plus free bus passes. It is based at MPR/APM headquarters in downtown St. Paul

Position Responsibility:

Formats text in HTML. Creates Web graphics. Collects information from internal sources and posts it to the Web. Scans images and prepares them for Web use. Identifies and reports production problems and assists with solutions. Follows established workflow and production routines for site maintenance. Checks work for HTML accuracy and browser compatibility. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Candidate must be well-versed in HTML and CSS coding and Photoshop. An ability to learn quickly, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively is important. Candidate should have excellent writing skills, a strong sense of detail, and a desire for a career in online media.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

College student preferred. Experience with online or print publications, Web authoring tools, online audio, and basic programming is helpful.
