JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary:
The Reporter is based in Los Angeles and will be responsible for a beat and general assignment reporting. The Reporter will research, report, write and file on-air and online reports for newscasts and talk shows. S/he will also provide additional material as needed for station’s Internet news service and assists with the development of online reporting projects. The Reporter will contribute story ideas and assist in fine-tuning others’ ideas as well as being a resource to other News staff and editors.
Position Responsibility:
· Pitches and reports breaking news spots and feature stories.
· Works an assigned beat or on general assignment.
· Writes and reports news stories; research and write stories on issues; assist other reporters, producers and editors with information.
· Work with news editors to generate ideas.
· Assist in special programming.
· Operate production and studio equipment and facilities.
· Deliver substantive reports on varied subjects on a tight deadline
· Gather information and audio for reports.
· Provide “live” reports with newscasts and talk show and host 2-ways at expert level.
· Assemble, edit and mix stories for air
· Work with editors, reporters and operations staff to coordinate content.
· Establish priorities and goals for beat(s).
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
Three years or more professional radio journalism experience.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
· Demonstrated radio reporting, Internet news and production skills.
· Strong writing and reporting skills.
· Professional on-air delivery.
· Ability to perform a variety of assignments well and completely.
· Commitment to learn and enact best journalism practices.
· Experience in or familiarity with public radio news.
· Digital production expertise highly desirable.
· Knowledge of online journalistic practices important.
· Effective use of sound in story production.
· Ability to consistently produce substantive reports on a tight deadline.
Preferred Skills and Experience
Fluency in Spanish preferred. Fluency in other languages desirable.
