Journalism Training Program
Applications are being accepted for a newsroom-training program for news reporters at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. This trainee will be part of Tribune Company’s Metpro, a two-year program designed to encourage journalists from underrepresented communities and backgrounds to consider careers in journalism. The chosen candidate will receive six months of training at the Sun-Sentinel starting in Fall 2008. He/she will learn from experienced journalists about writing, interviewing, researching and covering beats while writing articles for the Sun-Sentinel. After successfully completing the first six months, the Metpro reporter would begin 18 months in an entry-level reporting position. Mentoring and periodic evaluations will continue through the program. It is expected that this reporter’s performance will result in a staff position being offered. Applicants should be beginning journalists who are capable of conducting interviews in Spanish or Creole. The successful candidate will receive a salary and benefits. The application deadline is January 31. To apply go to http://www.metpronews.com/. See the Sun-Sentinel at sun-sentinel.com
