Overview:
Nielsen Business Media, Online is seeking a freelance writer, specialized in the media and communications industry to cover the job market for our new website, mediajobmarket.com.
Mediajobmarket.com will primarily serve as a career networking tool for employers and jobseekers. The site will combine efforts from our vast network of Nielsen Brands; from www.editorandpublisher.com, www.hollywoodreporter.com , www.adweek.com, www.mediaweek.com, as well as a few others under the Nielsen Umbrella, to dedicate coverage and offer career advice of all job functions within Television, Radio, Print, and Web media marketplace.

Job Description:

The role of the writer will be to research, interview, and write informative advice and instructional articles relevant to jobseekers and professionals on a wide range of topics. The subject matter will cover everything from general job hunting advice on how-to write and pitch resumes and cover letters geared towards recent graduates and those looking to break into the industry, to articles helping seasoned veterans with career development by building and improving management skills to effectively manage smarter. Other issues will include managing finances, healthcare options, creating retirement plans, handling workplace issues, and advice on healthy work-life balance.

The writer will work closely with editorial staff to research the market and to ensure the content is a relevant resource to the audience. The writer will create salient content and maintain regular coverage of news pertaining to the job market; such as the writers strike, layoffs at newspapers and print magazines, medical cutbacks for freelancers at major television studios, etc.

The position is a part-time, long-term contracted freelance opportunity, and the Content Writer will work offsite. This position requires excellent writing, interviewing and research skills, as well as a good rolodex of industry contacts.

The position is ideal for web-savvy writers and/or creative online producers with a firm grasp of online media trends from both content and marketing perspectives looking to develop their portfolio. The pay scale is based per article used, and depending on experience.

Core Responsibilities:
- Write one to two articles per week offering advice to job seekers and industry professionals by gathering, interviewing, and researching relevant topics
- Use internal and external internet technologies to research and develop breaking headline news pieces and other commentary pertaining to the industry.

Education and Necessary Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, Human Resources, or related field of stud
- Demonstrable writing and editing skills with the ability to write quickly and accurately in a deadline driven environment
-Experience working as a content manager, content developer, writer, editor, or a related field, preferably with two or more years at an established media or internet publication
- Working knowledge of online publishing technologies and basic HTML
- Familiarity with online social networking, community, and blogging tools.
- Internet community development experience a plus
