JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Intern, Online News

Location: St Paul, MN

Position Summary:
The intern will provide daily site maintenance, audio encoding, photo preparation and frequent HTML updates in a deadline-driven environment. The internship will provide basic training in Web production for the largest regional public radio news network in the nation.

Position Responsibility:
Writing news and feature copy for the site.
Hand-code HTML to support new and current pages.
Create layout for interactive online web content using Photoshop.
Animate and program multimedia content using Macromedia Flash, designing layouts and programs which combine audio and visual content in innovative ways.
Work with the New Media team to develop new content and features for the site.

Required Education and Experience:
You must be a current student in an undergraduate or graduate program, or have graduated within 12 months from the start of the internship.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Demands solid writing, interface design and programming skills.
An ability to write, meet deadlines, and collaborate with other newsroom staff.
Candidate must be well versed in HTML and CSS, as well as Photoshop.
Candidate should have good communication skills, a strong sense of detail and curiosity.

Preferred Skills and Experience:
Experience with php, mySQL, and Flash helpful but not necessary.

Compensation/Schedule:
The internship pays an hourly rate. Bus pass or reimbursement for parking is also available. College students may take the internship for course credit. We’re looking to fill the internship as soon as possible. It will last up to 6 months at 20 hours per week.
