DC: Opinions producer for WashingtonPost.com
Washingtonpost.com is seeking an opinions producer
with a passion for exploring how to use technology to
spark interesting and lively debates. This person will
help push the newspaper’s award-winning opinions
content onto the Web, create original content and new
features, and help set the public-policy agenda for
the nation’s capital. Though this is not primarily a
writing job, there is an open invitation to pitch
pieces for publication.
Responsibilities include:
Helping to produce the Opinions section of
washingtonpost.com: deciding what content to promote
on the homepage and section front, selecting
compelling visuals to complement columns, and writing
snappy headlines and blurbs.
Helping to maintain and update the site.
Helping to select which op-ed submissions to publish
online.
Generating ideas for columns and features.
Conceiving and producing creative multimedia projects.
Priority with be given to candidates with:
A strong interest in politics and public policy.
Web savvy, experience in online journalism, and
comfort adapting to new software and technologies.
Experience shooting and editing video for the Web.
Excellent writing and copy-editing skills.
A sense of humor.
