JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Production Assistant
Grade Level: EC
FLSA Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Reports to: Producer, Marketplace Money
Department: American Public Media, Marketplace
Location: Los Angeles, CA

Position Summary:
The Production Assistant assists the Marketplace Money Producer in a wide range of editorial and broadcast production tasks. Duties may include filling in for Marketplace Money Associate Producer, Director, or other Marketplace production staff.

Position Responsibility:
· Research, contact, book and pre-interview guests for hosts.
· Go through listener e-mail and phone calls to identify questions for weekly “Getting Personal” segments.
· Produce taped recording session and cut audio for editorial content and length.
· Conduct research as assigned.
· Assist in editing copy, editing digital audio, and communicating with freelancers, commentators, and staff reporters.
· Contribute ideas for stories, interviews, commentaries, and other editorial material.
· Monitor wires for show updates.
· Serve as backup Director for the weekly Marketplace Money show roll.
· Write weekly promos for station use.
· Maintain show archives and mail CD’s, as needed.
· Handle correspondence as assigned.
· Perform routine production-related tasks as assigned.
· Administrative tasks including answering mail, record keeping, data entry, creating daily rundowns and payment vouchers.

Required Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
· Internship or classes in the field.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
· Solid writing skills
· Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, geography, and world events essential.
· Working knowledge of audio equipment use.
· Good research skills and experience.
· Computer literacy and knowledge of PC based word processing software.
· Good interpersonal communication skills.
· Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines.
· Critical reading and listening skills are required.
· Determined to accomplish assignments.
· Solid writing and research skills
· Ability to audition and edit audiotape
· Ongoing familiarity with national and international news
· Understanding of the needs of broadcast deadlines.

Preferred Skills and Experience:
· Master’s degree
· Journalism work experience.
