ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, STUDIOS AND PROJECTS

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Responsible for managing engineering department maintenance engineers as well as staff engineers, per diem workers and contractors involved with technical projects, repairs and improvements within the WNYC Radio plant.
· Works with the director of engineering in the administration, planning, prioritizing and implementation of all projects relating to the technical aspects of WNYC facilities. Supervises engineers, per diem engineers, outside contractors etc., assigned to project work
· Oversees the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance and attendant record-keeping of WNYC Radio audio plant including all broadcast/recording/ performance studios and control room equipment
· Maintains a proactive relationship with the facilities manager for coordination of telephones, HVAC and other physical plant concerns within the facility
· Maintains a proactive relationship with the director of IT to assure the proper operation of all computer related equipment used in the broadcast facility
· Manages the engineering maintenance shop including supervising and assigning work to staff, setting goals & priorities, and evaluating employees
· Researches designs, implements and trains personnel in new and existing equipment/technology/procedures
· Generates operational/technical guides, standards and procedures, for equipment operators and the maintenance shop
· Participates in engineering department leadership meetings, provides technical expertise, input and progress reports
· Provides backup to director of engineering in the operation and maintenance of WNYC AM & FM’s transmitter facilities
· Work on other special projects and duties as needed

Qualifications:
· Requires minimum five years progressively responsible broadcast engineering experience including component level trouble shooting and repair;
· Previous supervisory experience required
· A degree in Electronics Technology, Engineering or a related field required; B.S.E.E. degree preferred; SBE certification highly desirable.
· Must be able to successfully problem-solve and multi-task under pressure of live broadcast
· Requires ability to handle competing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously
· Strong interpersonal skills and communication required
· Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, sit, write, type, speak, hear, read, and lift equipment as necessary - required
· Must be able to work in a studio broadcast and/or office environment; must be able to work remotely on occasion; ability to work extended hours as needed, including some evenings and weekends, and to be on-call for emergencies
