As part of a team dedicated to covering the technology sector for the
Business News desk, this reporter contributes spot news and
authoritative, compelling and useful enterprise stories and packages on
a range of topics. The content must be thoroughly reported and
well-written, making important and often complex topics easy to
understand. The successful candidate may at times be asked to take
charge of the biggest story of the day - such as a change in company
strategy or a merger - and fashion it to illuminate for online and print
readers why the story matters and how it may affect their lives.
QUALIFICATIONS
The right candidate will have well-rounded knowledge of the technology
sector and industries ranging from telecommunications to semiconductors
to online search engines. The ideal candidate should be able to quickly
distill often complicated information into tight, clear stories, and to
work under intense deadline pressure. This candidate will also have a
demonstrated talent for writing clear and compelling pieces and for
rigorous, thought-provoking analysis.
Applicants should be able to produce copy that meets AP’s high standards
for accuracy, balance, clarity and context. Three years as a financial
journalist is preferred. Good communications skills and familiarity with
a team approach to work are essential.
