Dow Jones Newswires is looking for an experienced journalist to cover Asia’s technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) beat as a regional reporter. The position, to be based in Tokyo, entails tracking regional trends in the TMT industries and writing insightful and analytical features and technology columns pertaining to the semiconductor and flat-panel display industries and other tech topics. The successful candidate will contribute to corporate coverage of Japan’s major technology and telecom firms, such as Sony, Matsushita Electric and Toshiba. The position also might entail travel to cover major technology conferences throughout Asia.

The reporter will work closely with the TMT news editor and other reporters and editors in different regions to cover breaking news and other news events that have implications for the global technology industry. The ideal candidate will have several years of experience covering the TMT sector and will be able to generate enterprise story ideas with little supervision. Spoken and written Japanese is preferred but isn’t mandatory. Expected start date for the job is some time around October.
