New York–Business Editor for Associated Press
This administrator manages a desk of about a dozen spot news editors
responsible for delivering timely, accurate and authoritative breaking
news and informative, analytical stories about the day’s top
developments in business news. Working in conjunction with beat editors
and reporters, the News Editor helps drive the production of news that
informs consumers and investors and that meets the demands of an online
audience. Qualified applicants should be seasoned editors and managers,
able to quickly shape stories that are sensible and easy to comprehend
while inspiring and teaching other editors to do likewise. Along with
the beat editors, he or she also coordinates the day’s workflow as well
as the work schedules for business editors and reporters in New York
State and around the country.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have experience managing a team of
journalists and working across desks and departments to deliver an
outstanding news report. The AP is looking for someone with the
managerial skills to lead a desk of editors operating under deadline
pressure and the editing skills and news judgment to drive outstanding
spot news coverage. The right candidate will have editing experience
across a range of industries, from media/entertainment to retailing to
technology. The position requires excellent organizational and
communications skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities in
a fast-paced environment. Financial news experience is required. Five or
more years editing experience and two or more years of managerial
experience are preferred.
