New York–Senior producer for WNYC Public Radio
The Express is WNYC’s hyper-local interactive news-driven public affairs magazine and talk program. Program features include an ensemble cast to provide diverse perspectives and unique access points to communities throughout New York; Interactivity as a tool for inclusion and engagement; monthly civic dialogue forums where multimedia technologies, artistic performances, and scholarly work serve as the catalyst for public dialogue on social issue most impacting New Yorkers.
The senior producer will lead the daily editorial meeting; will participate in the program on-air and online; will pitch story ideas in regular editorial meetings and be expected to plan out story coverage from conception to completion. The senior producer will work with the Senior Director Program Development to help develop and shape the editorial voice of the program.
Manages:
· Story execution from conception to completion across all platforms
· Collaboration on story execution with program hosts, producers, and other staff
· Collaboration on content with various departments and programs across WNYC
· Selection and editing of program contributors with a strong emphasis on original voices
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Develop story ideas for a daily radio program
· Develop stories with program hosts and other staff
· Work to develop show’s sound and perspective with program hosts and other staff
· Contribute to program on-air, on-stage and online as guest and segment presenter
· Target program contributors and develop regular contributors as a key element of the daily program
· Produce web specific content for the program and develop strategies for interactive program components in collaboration with WNYC Digital
· Other responsibilities as needed
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree or satisfactory equivalent
· 5 years of full time professional experience in a rigorous, media or research driven environment, or satisfactory equivalent required
· Excellent communication, diplomacy and collaborative skills required
· Strong interviewing skills
· Demonstrated research/investigative journalistic skills
· On-air experience preferred
· Ability to prioritize and handle several projects at once
· Ability to take initiative to pursue story ideas
· Ability to shift gears between independent and collaborative work required
· Ability to see news stories as interrelated and help draw out common areas
· Previous staff management and budget experience preferred
· This position requires use of a computer, telephone and other office and broadcast equipment; ability to communicate effectively through a variety of methods; requires ability to work extended hours as needed
· Must be able to work in a studio broadcast and/or office environment; must be able to work remotely on occasion
