Position Details
LISTENING SERVICES ASSOCIATE
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Provide listeners and members with timely professional responses to inquiries and comments. Carefully document all interactions in WNYC database . Pro-actively following-up on open issues. Encourage non-members to become members and support the Membership department’s retention efforts. Research and respond to programming inquiries. Develop overall understanding of station operations and personnel in order to respond to listener inquiries. Address and respond to membership inquiries. Support station efforts to strengthen and expand WNYC’s relationship with its listeners
Qualifications:
(Required) Excellent verbal and telephone communication skills. Proficiency in written communication. Proven ability to generate a high volume of error-free correspondence. Superior interpersonal skills and a positive attitude, with focus on customer satisfaction and a team work environment. Ability to work in a busy environment necessary. Familiarity with WNYC Radio programming or public broadcasting preferred. Proven ability to navigate through difficult calls. Ability to convert challenges to opportunities. Working knowledge of a database -Team Approach is a plus. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, and ability to use multiple applications simultaneously. Internet-research experience. College degree or equivalent with two years of customer service or comparable experience. This position requires use of a computer, telephone and other office equipment; ability to communicate effectively through a variety of methods; requires ability to work extended hours as needed
DIGITAL MEDIA CULTURE INTERN
WNYC Digital Media Culture is seeking sharp, enthusiastic self-starters excited about using new media for arts and culture reporting in New York City to help us create media such as blog posts, video shorts, radio stories, slideshows, and websites using radio, video and photography. You must be open to creative thinking, team effort and have a passion for New York City culture. We are looking for interns with a variety of experiences and backgrounds. Interns are paid a small stipend and may receive college credit.
INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assist in all aspects of producing media for WNYC Digital Media Culture
* Provide research assistance and tape transcription
* Assist with aspects of the promotion of WNYC Digital Media Culture content through blog outreach and social networking websites like the Facebook and MySpace
* Interns will be part of the editorial process and may be expected to pitch ideas for Culture Blog content
* Assist with occasional administrative duties
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must have familiarity with NYC arts and culture life, knowledge of relevant blogs and websites and a passion for the arts and popular culture
* Proven willingness to learn new skills required
* Some journalism experience is preferred
* Must be consistently available for a minimum of 20 hours per week during the months of September through December to work in a New York City-based facility
* Must be enrolled in an accredited college to earn course credit
ONLINE JOURNALISM INTERN
The Takeaway thetakeaway.org, an ambitious multi-platform national news program co-produced by WNYC and PRI, seeks intellectually curious self-starters with Web skills and an interest in journalism to assist in the production of a dynamic radio show and online news experience. You must be open to creative thinking, team effort and making something new every day, whether it’s audio, video, a blog, citizen journalism, a public service database, a game, or an entirely new Web site. You’ll be part of a team as complex and diverse as America itself — we’re looking for interns with a variety of experiences, backgrounds and passions. Interns are paid a small stipend and may receive college credit. Note: Much of the work of the program takes place early in the mornings.
INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES::
* Assist in the production of The Takeaway’s digital experience by helping to research and produce news content
* Interns will play a critical role in contributing to and maintaining The Takeaway’s presence on social media platforms, including blogs and games
* Interns will be a part of the editorial process and may be expected to pitch ideas
* Assist with occasional administrative duties
Qualifications
* Must have online experience: either creating Web sites (using technologies such as CSS, JavaScript, Flash or MySQL), utilizing social media, or creating original journalism for the online format
* Must have a proven willingness to learn new skills
* Must be consistently available for a minimum of 15 hours per week during the months of September through December to work in a New York Citybased facility
* Must be enrolled in an accredited college to earn course credit
