Position details:
1. Senior Producer
Reporting to the executive producer of Radio Lab, the senior producer must be open to creative thinking, team effort, and be committed to developing strong communication within the show, across the organization and with external contributors. Sound editorial/reporting experience and excellent staff management and communication skills are required. The successful candidate will demonstrate fearlessness in pursuit of information, ability to work under pressure, strong instincts for gathering great tape, an inquisitive and active mind, and an ability to work in a tightly-knit team.

The senior producer is responsible for coordinating the Radio Lab production process and overseeing interns, a production assistant and associate producer. The senior producer will work closely with the assistant editor and host to produce 10 episodes of Radio Lab a year, 3-5 live events, and 26+ podcasts.

The producer must be a self-starter; and thrive in a collaborative, innovation-focused work environment.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
§ Reporting and producing pieces
§ Coordinating Radio Lab production calendar§ Running Radio Lab staff meetings and supervising staff
§ Coordinating with external contributors
§ Creating scripts/segments from interviews performed by our hosts and others
§ Researching story ideas, booking guests, arranging logistics (such as tape syncs, ISDNS, travel plans)
§ Must be able to travel as required for reporting and recording

§ Assist during tapings and digital audio production for the show
§ Performing occasional field reporting and/or recording
§ Work on other special projects and duties as assigned
§ Other responsibilities as needed

Qualifications:
§ Five years minimum journalism, print and/or broadcast experience preferred
§ Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience required
§ Demonstrated strong news writing ability, preferably in a broadcast setting required
§ Excellent verbal and written communication required
§ Sound organizational skills, with great attention to detail required
§ Extensive research skills required
§ Ability to meet objectives under deadline pressure required
§ Requires ability to work in a group environment, give and take direction
§ Digital audio editing experience preferred
§ Prior management experience strongly preferred
§ Previous radio production experience strongly recommended
§ This position requires use of a computer, telephone and other office equipment; ability to communicate effectively through a variety of methods; requires ability to work extended hours as needed, including some evenings and weekends
§ Must be able to work in a studio broadcast and/or office environment; must be able to work remotely on occasion.

2. Assistant Editor
Reporting to the senior producer of Radio Lab, the assistant editor will work closely with the host/editor. The assistant editor will work closely with the Senior Producer in leading the weekly editorial meeting. Sound editorial/reporting experience and communication skills are required. Must have extensive science reporting experience. and demonstrate fearlessness in pursuit of information, ability to work under pressure, strong instincts for gathering great tape, an inquisitive and active mind, and an ability to work in a tightly-knit team are required.

The assistant editor will be responsible for steering the Radio Lab editorial process, which conveys the editorial vision of the host/editor, and meets the approval of the co-host. The position involves extensive communication with the staff and a clear sense of pushing the editorial conversation forward. The assistant editor will work closely with the senior producer and host with the explicit goal of producing 10 episodes of Radio Lab a year, 3-5 live events, and 26+ podcasts.

The assistant editor must be a self-starter; and thrive in a collaborative, innovation-focused work environment.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
§ Manages story execution from conception to completion across all platforms
§ Reports and produces pieces
§ Convenes an editorial conversation between hosts and show captains.
§ Maintains the editorial focus and point of view in developing show concepts.
§ Scripts/segments from interviews performed by our hosts and others
§ Researches story ideas, books guests, arranges logistics (such as tape syncs, ISDNS, travel plans)
§ Must be able to travel as required for reporting and recording
§ May work as a director with actors/hosts/reporters at Radio Lab
§ Pre-interview and book of potential guests
§ Write and edit material and prepare audio for broadcast
§ Assist during tapings and digital audio production for the show
§ Perform occasional field reporting and/or recording
§ Work on other special projects as assigned and other duties as assigned
§ Other responsibilities as needed

3. Production Assistant
Reporting to the senior producer of Radio Lab, the production assistant will be a vital part of the Radio Lab production team. The production assistant must have a thirst for listening to raw audio, a hunger for cutting tape, and a voracious appetite for communication about story ideas. Journalism experience and effective communication skills are required. The successful candidate will be a good story teller and demonstrate fearlessness in pursuit of information, strong instincts for gathering great tape, an inquisitive and active mind, and an ability to work in a tightly-knit team are required.

The production assistant will be responsible production assembly duties, as well as developing and building radio lab stories. The position involves extensive communication with other staff members.

The production assistant must be a self-starter; and thrive in a collaborative, innovation-focused work environment.

§ Cut interview and tracking tape.
§ Assist the senior producer in show-related activities to meet deadlines
§ Assemble audio clips to be the aural version of print scripts.
§ Assist with reporting and producing pieces.
§ Propose scripts/segments from interviews performed by our hosts and others
§ Assist with research for story ideas, booking guests, arranging logistics (such as tape syncs, ISDNS, travel plans)
§ Must be able to travel as required for reporting and recording§ Assist with pre-interview and booking of potential guests
§ Assist with writing and editing material, and preparing audio for broadcast
§ Assist during tapings and digital audio production for the show
§ Perform occasional field reporting and/or recording
§ Write blog posts, and other outreach responsibilities as assigned.
§ Work on other special projects as assigned and other duties as assigned
§ Other responsibilities as needed
