The Orlando Sentinel is seeking an experienced journalist to lead its
computer-assisted reporting.

The Computer Projects Reporter will research and write his or her own
data-driven stories while collaborating with investigative and beat
reporters throughout the newsroom and coaching reporters who want toimprove their data analysis skills. The reporter’s work results not only
in stories but also in consumer-friendly databases at
www.OrlandoSentinel.com that allow readers to relate an issue to their
own lives.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of reporting
experience, with an emphasis on government reporting; significant
experience in reporting and writing data-driven investigative reports;
and an advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel and Access. Proficiency
with SQL, ArcGIS, SPSS and Caspio are preferred. Because Florida has one
of the most favorable open-records laws in the country, and because the
Sentinel has such a strong commitment to watchdog journalism, this is
an extraordinary opportunity for a reporter who wants to dig deeply and
tell the big story while taking a teaching role.

The Orlando Sentinel is a partner in NAHJ’s Parity Project, which was
launched in our newsroom in May 2006.
