Organized in 1972, the Financial Accounting Foundation (FAF) is an independent, private-sector organization with responsibility for the oversight, administration, and finances of the nation’s financial accounting and reporting standards-setting boards — the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and their Advisory Councils. The FASB establishes standards of financial accounting and reporting for private-sector entities, including businesses and not-for-profit organizations. Those standards are officially regarded as generally accepted and authoritative. The Technical Accounting Communications Manager will report to the FASB Technical Director. This position will work closely with Assistant Directors and project team members and plays a critical role in managing the process of improving and standardizing the FASB’s technical communications.

This position is responsible for providing simple, effective, and timely communications about the FASB’s technical activities to both:

- A technical audience—those directly involved in the preparation and use of financial statements (i.e., preparers, auditors, and sophisticated users of financial information)

- Less technically oriented audiences, such as non-financial managers of companies that apply US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, less sophisticated investors, and regulatory bodies.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

- Evaluating our existing technical communications, and recommending guidelines that would become a basic framework for all projects. Inclusive within these guidelines would be details specifying the form, content, and delivery mechanisms for technical communications.

- Evaluating the need for additional technical communications, above and beyond the defined framework, on a project-by-project basis; then recommending and implementing those communications.

- Developing and/or editing of all external project-level technical communications, ensuring release of clear, understandable plain language documents that address the information needs of their intended audience.

- Controlling project detail web page, ensuring accuracy and timeliness with content.

- Reviewing FASB technical press release drafts.

- Creating presentations for webinars or speeches.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills, with proven ability to effectively communicate accounting issues to a nontechnical audience.

- Demonstrated ability to grasp technical accounting issues with minimal support. A bachelor’s degree in accounting with associated accounting experience is preferred but not required.

- Strong interpersonal skills necessary to interface with FASB members, staff, and constituents.

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

- Attention to detail and quality, self-motivated, collaborative work style, deadline-oriented and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
