Terms of Reference
Ideosync Media Combine is a not for profit organisation based in the national capital region. Ideosync works on Communication for Social Change with a focus on community development, women’s empowerment, gender, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, sexuality, human rights and HIV/AIDS. The core team at ideosync is professionally trained in mass communications and communications for development methodologies and the organisation has been working on projects supported by various UN, bilateral and multilateral agencies. Ideosync designs communication frameworks and strategies, develops and produces behaviour change communication content (audio, visual and print) through a rigorous process of community participation, pre testing and formative research. A large part of our work also involves training and capacity building of different stakeholders and local organisations for integrating innovative information, advocacy and communication strategies into their core development activities.

We are implementing several projects that involve community communication activities. These include projects in Mumbai, Delhi, Uttarakhand, UP etc. Ideosync is initiating the production and broadcast of a radio series on safe migration and HIV prevention. The radio series will be produced in partnership with community reporters and community media centres. The appointee will be in charge of technical production of content including directing and recording drama, editing the episodes and uploading the content.

Key Tasks for the Radio Producer:

We are looking for young professionals who are willing engage with community media. The appointee will work with and under the advice and direction of the Program officer and under overall supervision of Ideosync’s Director of Projects. He/She will be expected to complete specific deliverables during the period of the contract. These will include the following:

1. Assist in establishing recording studios at the Ideosync office including overseeing soundproofing arrangements and equipment set up
2. Drafting storyboards and script outlines for radio programs. This will be done in consultation with the Program officer, Director of Project and the Content Advisory groups
3. Directing radio drama actors, and recording the drama segments
4. Recording field interviews and field audio content in Delhi and NCR region and assembling field audio content received from community reporters
5. Editing and packaging the radio programs to produce final episodes and preparing support materials for uploading the programmes, such as lead texts, scripts etc

6. Setting up broadcast play lists and up linking the programs to the satellite as well as providing broadcast ready CDs to broadcast partners

7. Assist during training and facilitation workshops to be held with the community and conduct certain training workshops independently
8. Compilation and dispatch of regular updates and reports on status of the radio programs
9. Assisting in video projects on shoot or in post production of video projects of the organisation

Qualification, skills and experience required:
The incumbent shall have the following profile:

1. Diploma/Bachelor’s or Masters degree, preferably from Recognised Media Training Institute,
2. Proficient in all aspects of digital radio production including recording using Minidisk and studio equipment, comfortable in field recording situations. This is a non negotiable requirement
3. Proficiency in radio program editing using cool edit/adobe audition or similar soft wares and familiarity with independent radio and production units. This is a non negotiable requirement
4. Creative experience in writing scripts and producing radio content
5. Experience of 2-3 years in low cost, development projects with communities
6. Familiarity and network with FM stations will be desirable
7. Willingness to travel within Delhi & NCR and work extended hours.
8. Good command on drafting reports and correspondence in English
9. Good command over written and spoken Hindi
10. Outstanding communication skills with ability to take notes in the field and translate them into concise and clear reports.
11. Working experiences on computers especially MS Word, MS Excel, and Internet/ E-mail.
12. Acquaintance with ICT networking for ‘content sharing & distribution’
13. Excellent media tool skills and ability to use popular software in digital tools and radio techniques
14. Ability to take initiative and work under minimum supervision. Independent drive and sense of responsibility.

Time frame and schedule of Payment

The appointee will be given a one year contract with an initial two month probation period. There is possibility of an extension after the yearly performance review based on the quality of work.

Payment will be made by cheque directly to the account of the employee not more than once per month within the first week of the following month. The pay scale will range from Rs.12000-16000 per month depending on qualifications and experience

Organization and Program Profile
Drishti is a leading human rights organization that uses media, communications and the arts to strengthen India’s social movements and organizations. Video Volunteers is an international organization that empowers communities to voice. Drishti and Video Volunteers have established ten Community Video Units (CVUs) across India where community members are producing monthly videos for local and global audiences. Each Video Magazine is screened back to the community in 25 different villages or slum pockets to approximately 10,000 people per month.

We believe community video can truly accelerate social change and create people-led development. Our goal is to create a Global Social Media network for and by the community.

About the Video Trainer Positions

Each Community Video Unit (CVU) has a full time Video Trainer working on site at an NGO with the Community Producers for a period of eighteen months. The job will entail training 6-10 community members in all aspects of video production, participatory video, principles of community media, media analysis and development communication.

Our upcoming CVU sites are likely to include Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttaranchal and Gujarat. We are looking for candidates who can proficiently communicate in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi or Gujarati and will be willing to relocate to their respective work sites. The Video Trainers will also need to have a working knowledge of English. For our Unit in Tamil Nadu, we would prioritise Dalit applicants or applicants who have worked on Dalit Rights.

Drishti/ Video Volunteers in partnership with Udaan are creating four Education-Community Video Units in Gujarat focused on producing stimulating curriculum-based local language educational videos for children. These will be videos created by the community, as opposed to the usual top-down approach to educational material production. This will be the first such an initiative in the country. The community-produced video content aims to improve the quality of education and strengthen values of ‘citizenship’ and ‘diversity’. The videos will be produced by local people who will be trained as full-time ‘community video producers.’ These videos will be shown in classrooms to children and will be followed by activities and interactive sessions by Classroom Facilitators, who will encourage children to think more broadly and holistically about the subjects in their textbooks. The videos will be on subjects that the students find hard to learn, teachers find difficult to teach, and will integrate lessons on the value of democracy, citizenship and diversity.

About the PROGRAM MANAGER Position (One Position):
The Program Manager will be responsible for launching the program, its overall management and then running it. S/he will need to oversee the creation of the E-CVUs at the local NGOs. S/h will need to oversee the design of the pedagogy, and be very involved in the monitoring and evaluation of the program. This is a true management position, with creative responsibilities as well, and requiring someone with a strong attention to deadlines and understanding of impact.

Australia’s overseas television service, ABC Asia Pacific, is looking for a journalist in New Delhi with television experience and the capacity to provide reports in English for both News and Current Affairs. ABC Asia Pacific is currently available to 10.2 million homes and more than 200,000 hotel rooms in 41 countries across the Asia-Pacific region. The service is still young and the take-up rate in many countries is impressive. The service has a broad range of general programming.

ABC Asia Pacific news bulletins are compiled in Melbourne specifically for a regional audience with stories from ABC bureaus in Australia and overseas and from the agencies, APTV and Reuters.

In addition, the service has several Current Affairs programmes -
