Description of duties and qualifications: UNICEF is looking for a part time Radio Producer/Writer to create new radio content about and relevant to children; develop the “Let’s Talk Children”/Podcast programming; produce programming, under the guidance of the Internet, Broadcast & Image Section (IBIS), UNICEF generated radio/audio content and radio content created by various outside sources, including children; work with relevant people within the Division of Communications to appropriately brand radio initiatives; make radio programming available via the UNICEF website and other websites; promote UNICEF Radio & Podcasts; coordinate ad hoc radio content and distribution.

Qualifications include extensive experience in radio and audio production; good technical knowledge of relevant equipment such as Pro Tools; knowledge of youth issues; experience with UNICEF Radio a plus.

The Center for Public Integrity is seeking a Web editor to coordinate the editorial, graphic, multimedia, and interactive content of the Center’s website and other Center-owned sites. This position will work with consultants and Center staff to develop and implement innovative strategies to drive traffic, engage audiences, and increase visitors and supporters. He or she will write and post features, blogs, editorial content, and develop online newsletters. The Web editor will ensure content coordination with the editorial and development departments. He or she will work with the technical Webmaster and IT manager on researching, assessing, and implementing cutting edge technology for the site.

The Center for Public Integrity was founded in 1989 as a non partisan investigative journalism organization working in the public interest and focusing on the quality of its work, regardless of where the findings lead. The Center does not serve as an advocate for certain points of view nor does it take positions on issues. Rather, the Center seeks to do the hard digging and present the highly credible facts, thus serving as a catalyst for others to take action, change laws, or develop policy recommendations.

Director, Case Studies Development - The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has awarded the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism a $1.25 million grant to establish the Knight Case Studies Initiative to promote journalism leadership. We now seek a Director, Case Studies Development. Designed for classroom instructional use, case studies illustrate real-life decision making by publishers, executive editors and senior correspondents focusing on the editorial, ethical and economic aspects of the decision-making process. The Director, in addition to writing cases, will work with technology and media specialists to design the format for case presentation and work with the faculty to integrate case studies into the curriculum. A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 to 7 years related experience in newsroom management, or the development and writing of case studies, required.

Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) is a growing charitable
organization that harnesses the power of the media to combat human
rights abuses. By building the capacity of the media to report
effectively on human rights issues, JHR’s work pressures abusers to
stop and empowers victims to fight back.

JHR has an immediate opening for an expert trainer to be based in
Accra, Ghana. The successful candidate will work in partnership
with one other expert trainer to organize and conduct human rights
reporting workshops for journalists around the country. Frequent
travel to different regions of the country is required. The six
month position will start late July or early August (specific start
date is somewhat flexible).

Skills:
-knowledge of and ability to teach journalism topics including
ethics and basic reporting skills
-knowledge of human rights issues in West Africa
-excellent facilitation skills including ability to actively engage
workshop participants
-strong organizational skills combined with flexibility
-knowledge of a Ghanaian language preferred
-must be a Canadian citizen but may currently be living overseas

Experience:
-significant journalism experience
-background in either print, radio or television with a working
knowledge of all three mediums
-experience teaching or facilitating
-significant experience living and working in a cross-cultural
environment
-advanced degree in journalism or human rights preferred
-experience living and working in Ghana or other West African
country preferred

Airfare (if not already in Ghana) and visa will be covered. A
$1500CDN monthly stipend is provided to cover rent, food, health
insurance, etc.

Research Associate, Africa Program

The Committee to Protect Journalists is seeking a Research Associate for the
Africa program to work in our New York office. The ideal candidate will have
some knowledge of press freedom and human rights issues in sub-Saharan
Africa, strong writing and reporting skills, and the ability to work
independently as well as collaborate with a small team. Strong oral and
written communication skills in English and French are essential.

Primary responsibilities include: conducting daily research on English and
French language news Web sites, conducting telephone interviews with African
journalists and press freedom advocates in the two languages, preparing
alerts and case summaries on press freedom violations, and working with the
Africa Program Coordinator on regional advocacy efforts.
