The Post’s Outlook section is in the market for a new deputy editor. The
ideal candidate will be passionate about ideas and debates on politics,
foreign policy, science, business, race and culture; eager to dial up the
world’s top thinkers, writers and artists and mold their work into snappy
essays, narratives and graphics; and obsessed with driving the Washington
conversation — in print and online — in new and unexpected directions.
Experience in a range of media, whether Web or radio or magazine or
television, is a big plus. Top-notch editing skills and a collegial,
team-first attitude are a must.

Outlook occupies a unique perch in Post journalism. We meld reporting,
commentary and narrative, and work with contributors inside and outside
the newsroom. The deputy editor is a full partner in leading,
conceptualizing and editing Outlook on a weekly basis. We are casting a
wide net for this position. Candidates should be ready to offer a critique
of Outlook as well fully-formed ideas for pieces and features and writers
that could appear in Outlook in the weeks and months ahead. (Tip over some

To you, is it a bliss to meditatively write and move spirit/consciousness
of the audience? Do you love to focus on subjects such as films/media,
consciousness, culture/society, identity ? Do you write in the style where
profundity meets simplicity of expression? Our wish is to adopt a voice

We are launching an online venue with weekly blog catering to our primary
audience - film-makers, film-lovers, conscious creatives/citizens. This
venue is to be launched in October/November 2008. Through this effort, we
are not just building a platform/structure that simply publishes content,
but one that raises consciousness of film-makers as citizens and unites
people through their spirit.

We are looking for writers who wish to blog and engage with global
audience in a dialogue through this online platform. These opportunities
are for freelance contributions which can commence now. Compensation is
based on expertise/experience and efforts required.

Washingtonpost.com is seeking an opinions producer
with a passion for exploring how to use technology to
spark interesting and lively debates. This person will
help push the newspaper’s award-winning opinions
content onto the Web, create original content and new
features, and help set the public-policy agenda for
the nation’s capital. Though this is not primarily a
writing job, there is an open invitation to pitch
pieces for publication.

Responsibilities include:

Helping to produce the Opinions section of
washingtonpost.com: deciding what content to promote
on the homepage and section front, selecting
compelling visuals to complement columns, and writing
snappy headlines and blurbs.
Helping to maintain and update the site.
Helping to select which op-ed submissions to publish
online.
Generating ideas for columns and features.
Conceiving and producing creative multimedia projects.

Priority with be given to candidates with:
A strong interest in politics and public policy.
Web savvy, experience in online journalism, and
comfort adapting to new software and technologies.
Experience shooting and editing video for the Web.
Excellent writing and copy-editing skills.
A sense of humor.

The Record (Bergen County, NJ) has an opening for an Assistant
Managing Editor/Editorial Page Editor.

Major duties are:

· Leading a department of nine, including a deputy, several
editorial writers and columnists and a cartoonist, and providing
appropriate feedback that improves their skills and upholds the
highest journalistic standards.

· Setting the agenda for public discourse in North Jersey as
well as New Jersey by providing readers, through our editorial pages,
with the insight and information they need to make reasoned and sound
decisions.

· Ensuring that our editorial pages reflect diverse viewpoints,
take contrary arguments into account, promote lively expression of
opinion and foster understanding and the public good.

· Heading the newsroom’s Ethics Committee and convene it, as
necessary, to consider journalistic questions and to keep our Ethics
Policy up-to-date.

· Advising the editor as part of his management team.
· Meeting and communicating with the public and community and
government leaders.

The successful candidate must have a proven track record leading
newspaper editorial pages and an editorial/opinion page staff. We
are looking for someone who is innovative, strident about their work,
willing to stick out his or her neck and savvy about multimedia and
new ways of engaging the public and drawing in readers or viewers, no
matter what the platform.

The Record, with a circulation of about 150,000 daily and 200,000
Sunday, is family-owned and located in North Jersey, just 15 miles
away from the heart of Times Square in Manhattan and a short drive
from the shore and the mountains. It has won the “General Excellence
Award” as New Jersey’s best daily newspaper nine of the past 13
years. Just recently, the newspaper won the 2005 “IRE Medal,” the
highest honor bestowed by the Investigative Reporters and Editors for
investigative reporting.
