The International Photo Editor is responsible for leading the Associated
Press photo activities outside of North America (U.S. and Canada).
Working with international Regional Photo Editors in three regions
(Europe, Middle East and Africa; Asia/Pacific and Latin America) this
editor will lead a staff of nearly 300 photographers and editors as they
cover news, sports, entertainment, business and feature stories around
the globe. The job involves overseeing coverage plans as well as shaping
the photographic content of the photo report through analysis and
comparison of coverage results.

Training of photographers and editors will be an important component of
this position. In addition this position will drive new visual
storytelling techniques and production of multimedia. The position also
has budgetary oversight of AP’s photo operations outside of North
America and will be responsible for making hiring recommendations to the
Director of Photography.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for this position will have substantial
international experience as a news photographer and/or photo editor and
will have experience running large story/event coverage in a news
organization as well as managing photographers and regional managers
from a variety of countries and cultures. The candidate will have solid
managerial experience as well as the financial acumen necessary to
oversee the multiple budgets involved. Working knowledge of Microsoft
Word, Excel, Photoshop and other photo-related programs is essential.
Ability to lead and work in a team across multiple formats is key to
success in this role. Knowledge of languages in addition to English is
desirable.

REQUIREMENTS
College degree in broadcast journalism or related field. Minimum one year electronic news experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Television news producing experience preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal, and good organizational skills. Strong computer skills and ability to work with common office software systems. This person should realize that quality news video must exist in a 3 screen world (television, internet, mobile), and be prepared to service all 3 screens on a daily basis.

Must be able to operate the ENG/SNG vehicles, broadcast standard field equipment (ENG/DNG) and all issued video/audio support accessory gear. Provide knowledgeable coverage of news stories to include shooting, editing and the gathering of basic information as needed by the Assignment Desk and for individual enterprise. Completed work will emphasize creative storytelling of the highest professional photo journalistic standards. The ability to operate non-linear edit systems and ability to encode video for web and mobile distribution is required. Will also operate and set up various microwave/edit remote trucks for live coverage of events as needed.

Must maintain a professional demeanor at all times and be able to work as a team player with the entire news staff. Must maintain and be responsible for all issued
station equipment and vehicles in accordance with stated policies.

This position prefers at least five years experience as a television news photojournalist as well as a NPPA award winning attitude and approach when covering news assignments.
