Terms of Reference
Ideosync Media Combine is a not for profit organisation based in the national capital region. Ideosync works on Communication for Social Change with a focus on community development, women’s empowerment, gender, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, sexuality, human rights and HIV/AIDS. The core team at ideosync is professionally trained in mass communications and communications for development methodologies and the organisation has been working on projects supported by various UN, bilateral and multilateral agencies. Ideosync designs communication frameworks and strategies, develops and produces behaviour change communication content (audio, visual and print) through a rigorous process of community participation, pre testing and formative research. A large part of our work also involves training and capacity building of different stakeholders and local organisations for integrating innovative information, advocacy and communication strategies into their core development activities.

We are implementing several projects that involve community communication activities. These include projects in Mumbai, Delhi, Uttarakhand, UP etc. Ideosync is initiating the production and broadcast of a radio series on safe migration and HIV prevention. The radio series will be produced in partnership with community reporters and community media centres. The appointee will be in charge of technical production of content including directing and recording drama, editing the episodes and uploading the content.

Key Tasks for the Radio Producer:

We are looking for young professionals who are willing engage with community media. The appointee will work with and under the advice and direction of the Program officer and under overall supervision of Ideosync’s Director of Projects. He/She will be expected to complete specific deliverables during the period of the contract. These will include the following:

1. Assist in establishing recording studios at the Ideosync office including overseeing soundproofing arrangements and equipment set up
2. Drafting storyboards and script outlines for radio programs. This will be done in consultation with the Program officer, Director of Project and the Content Advisory groups
3. Directing radio drama actors, and recording the drama segments
4. Recording field interviews and field audio content in Delhi and NCR region and assembling field audio content received from community reporters
5. Editing and packaging the radio programs to produce final episodes and preparing support materials for uploading the programmes, such as lead texts, scripts etc

6. Setting up broadcast play lists and up linking the programs to the satellite as well as providing broadcast ready CDs to broadcast partners

7. Assist during training and facilitation workshops to be held with the community and conduct certain training workshops independently
8. Compilation and dispatch of regular updates and reports on status of the radio programs
9. Assisting in video projects on shoot or in post production of video projects of the organisation

Qualification, skills and experience required:
The incumbent shall have the following profile:

1. Diploma/Bachelor’s or Masters degree, preferably from Recognised Media Training Institute,
2. Proficient in all aspects of digital radio production including recording using Minidisk and studio equipment, comfortable in field recording situations. This is a non negotiable requirement

ABOUT THE POSITION:
Ambitious new morning radio program seeks engaging, intellectually curious self-starters with strong communication skills and high energy to help us make a dynamic radio and online experience for news consumers nationwide. The broadcast engineer will be instrumental in maneuvering the fast-paced and high-intensity environment of a live national radio show. Under the direction of the technical director, the broadcast engineer will play a significant role in the sound and technical aspects of the show. Much of the work on the program will take place very early in the morning.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Operate control room audio console during live national broadcast, pre-production and post-production
· As assigned, perform operations related, but not limited to: downlink ingesting, uplink transmissions, ISDN transmissions, on-air digital play-out system, digital editing software, and Phone-Box systems
· Assist hosts and guests with microphone technique and microphone adjustment
· Manage a live countdown clock
· Assist producers with digital audio production
· Assist Technical Director with maintaining control-room and field equipmen
· Perform all functions related to remote broadcast recording and broadcasting, including but not limited to equipment selection, packing, transporting, loading and unloading, assembly and disassembly, transmission continuity and quality checking and system operation; keep equipment stored in orderly fashion

Qualifications:
· Minimum three years professional live broadcast board operation and post-production broadcast audio production engineering experience required; five years experience preferred

WEB EDITOR, WNYC/PRI MORNING SHOW

The web editor is expected to direct online innovation, presentation, and daily publication of high-quality editorial content and interactive features for the morning show. In collaboration with the executive producer and hosts of the morning show and the executive director of digital media, the Web Editor directs and manages the editorial voice of all online content, including the development of cutting-edge editorial tools and features, video content, and a variety of community applications. About the Position:

Position Summary:

The Producer will work closely with the Chief Economics Correspondent to create outstanding documentary programming for American RadioWorks and American Public Media programs. The Producer will play a key role in developing the agenda for ARW’s three-year project on poverty and related issues. The producer will support the CEC in reporting, fieldwork, studio production, web content development and all other activities of the project. The Producer will maintain the highest standards of journalism and in collaborating with APM programs and ARW partners.

DIRECT MARKETING PRODUCTION MANAGER

Work with the Director of Direct Marketing, vendors, and consultants in the planning and execution of mail and telemarketing initiatives for WNYC’s Membership and Midlevel programs including: renewals, buy back, add gift, lapsed, acquisition, sustainers, upgrades, acknowledgments, and pledge bills. S/he will manage the entire production process to ensure that initiatives are implemented on budget and on schedule. The Direct Marketing Production Manager will also contribute to creative development ensuring that package design and specifications are the most cost-effective and production takes advantage of all possible economies of scale. S/he will work with vendors to explore new formats, cost-savings. S/he will also manage list broker area.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Develop and maintain annual production schedules for printing, data-processing, personalization, mail shop, and calling all direct mail and telemarketing initiatives
· Get bids from print, mail shop, and merge-purge vendors for planned initiatives, budget/reforecast, and new formats/new creative: provide specifications and quantities; solicit recommendations from vendors about production options and cost savings; review and make recommendations about bids
· Supervise printing, merge-purge, data-processing, personalization, and mail shop vendors: coordinate between artist and printer; provide instructions to printers, merge-purge, and mail shop vendor; ensure Target DBS delivers files on time to vendor; resolve any problems with files; review print proofs, personalization proofs, insertion proofs, and merge output; review invoices against quotes; resolve production, billing, or other issues with vendors; monitor inventory levels at mail shop.

RESEARCHER
Under the joint supervision of the Campaign’s Executive Director and the Director of Gift and Estate Planning, the Researcher is responsible for providing all staff and trustees with high-quality research for meetings, events and strategic planning. The Executive Director is responsible for all day-to-day management activities of the Foundation including the hiring, firing and supervising of national office and managerial staff; implementing

Free Speech Radio News, a half-hour daily news show,
is searching for a qualified candidate to fill the DC
Editor position. This position is located in
Washington, DC.

-File 3 to 5 feature stories per week on issues
pertaining to Washington DC as the Nation’s Capitol.

-Participate every morning on the editorial team
bringing a list of story ideas from DC. Also help
make editorial decisions.

-Oversee a cadre of reporters who also file same day
stories for FSRN. Supply story ideas and assignment
for these reporters. Keep in contact with each of the
reporters.

-Follow closely all the developments that are
important to our listening audience in the House of
Representatives, the Senate, the White House, and the
Supreme Court. It is also necessary to have a good
general understanding of what is going on at the
Pentagon, the State Department, the Justice
Department, the Education Department and the Health
and Human Services Department.

-Along with your feature a day, sometimes you will be
required to gather sound from other events, press
conferences, speeches, or interviews to be added to
the newscast. You will also be required to write a
short anchor script around the tape that was gathered.

-Every now and then, participate as a guest on
various shows throughout the Pacifica Network when
requested and when convenient for you.

The DC Editor would start working in December with on
the job training from the outgoing DC Editor.

WHAT: Headlines Editor, 3/4 time, Monday-Friday, starting at 9am EST

LOCATION: Home studio or local radio station.

JOB DESCRIPTION: To deliver 5 minutes of headline news in a suitable
electronic format, on deadline, as part of 29-minute daily radio
newscast Free Speech Radio News. (www.fsrn.org). This is a 3/4 time
position with the possibility of becoming full time.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Familiarity with and access to an assortment of
daily news outlets. Daily news reporting and editing experience;
ability to meet deadline with minimal supervision; ability to work in
a collective decision-making process; experience with digital audio
editing required.

Free Speech Radio News is a half hour daily national/international
newscast broadcast on about 100 community and public radio stations,
and web radio stations around the United States. Approximately 300
freelance reporters around the world contribute to the newscast. We
try to use local reporters rather than sending people from the US to
provide coverage. FSRN is a worker-run collective.

JOB TASKS:
* Attend the daily morning editorial conference call, bringing
headline ideas
* Perform story selection in keeping with the overall mission
of Free Speech Radio News and the sensibilities of its listeners.
* Watch for breaking news through deadline and be prepared to
update headlines as needed.
* Assign stories in the morning to appropriate news reporters.
* Maintain contact with reporters to make sure they meet deadline.
* Edit stories written by reporters in preparation for production.
* If necessary, record reporter’s stories by phone, maintaining
the highest possible production standards.
* Provide instruction and assistance for reporters who send
sound and/or file stories electronically.
* Research, write, and conduct any necessary interviews for
important stories where no appropriate reporter is available, upon
agreement with editorial team.
* Electronically transfer stories from reporters to digital
workstation.
* Write appropriate story leads for the headlines portion of the cast.
* Confer with Features Editor to evaluate day’s newscast and
determine any necessary changes in headlines or features.
* Edit, voice and mix anchor leads.
* Assemble stories in an order that encourages sustained
listening and is sensitive to the news-worthiness of each story.
* Electronically edit stories and leads to fit for time –ideally,
5-minutes. Confer with the Engineer if extensions are necessary.
* Deliver assembled headlines package to an electronic site, on
deadline, as designated by the Engineer.
* Assist Features Editor with editing and story development.
* Help represent the Editorial Team at FSRN Steering Comm. Meetings

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

Producer should own or have access to recording equipment, computer
with high speed internet access, audio editing software, high quality
microphone, quiet space to record, high quality phone hybrid for
recording interviews and headlines delivered over the phone. Access
to an ISDN is ideal, although not required.
